Hot Wok Thai , Cabarita Beach

We've eaten here many times now - it's just down the road and it's a solid, dependable Thai restaurant. My only fault is that I've never had a good noodle dish here - but the curries and stir fries are pretty good - and so is the service. I like the fact that most seats are outside in a little courtyard - great in summer - and there's heaters in winter too. Servings are massive too. I can definitely recommend all the duck and seafood dishes - the squid salad is great, the Pla choo Chee ( steamed fish fillet red curry) is excellent with lots of fish. Prcies are standard for this area - around $14-$15 for chicken dishes...and $2/$3 more for seafood.

Kingscliff Bowling Club

What a Shocker ! After moving to the land of clubs we thought we'd check one out - and we'd heard this one was pretty good. Hell no . My girlfriend, having not eaten much red meat for a while , decided her iron levels could do with a boost . The Steak and Chips she ordered was so bad she had one mouthful of the steak and could not any eat another bite - and was put off eating red meat for weeks afterwards . Even the chips were bad .
I went for a Chicken Breast with Prawn sauce. Disgusting ! The chicken breast tasted like rubber and was well matched by a rubbery white sauce ( with a couple of prawns in there somewhere) and some soggy veges
I'd like to hope the $20 plus ala carte meals are better than these - but we'll never know. We go to clubs to get a cheap but decent feed and this was easily some of the worst food either of us have ever paid for.

Soundlounge , Currumbin RSL

The Soundlounge . Currumbin RSL . 4.9.06

The Sound Lounge is a slick music venue that happens mainly on a Friday night inside the Currumbin RSL They seem to mainly focus on roots/jazz/folk styles - great venue - very much in a similar vein to Sydney's "The Basement". The food, music and decor reflect that the place is aimed at perhaps a 30s and up crowd .intimate - but friendly and affordable. Don't turn up late if you want to grab one of the many tables

We were there to check out "The Dirty Lucy's" ( amazing!) - and while there shared a really really yummy Tandori and Yoghurt Chicken Pizza. consisting of slices of Tandori flavored grilled chicken - with few lashes of delicious yoghurt laced with coriander ( If memory serves me right). Simple flavors without an overkill of cheese - but we were surprised how filling it was - easily feeding the both of us for $16 - I'm glad they're not just around the corner or I'd be eating pizza all week.

TANDORI CHICKEN AND YOGHURT PIZZA ( FED 2 PEOPLE) - $16

SUMMARY - EXCELLENT MUSIC VENUE WITH DAMN GOOD PIZZA

GALILLEO'S (ITALIAN) - KINGSCLIFF,NSW

Not the best - I had a medium Vegetarian Pizza that was over-powered by bland cheese. A few fresh herbs wouldn't hurt - and a few less green capsicums.

Sue had Lamb shanks - well they said shanks but it was one shank - fatty - with bad mash and gravy. There's only one way to make bad mash - and that's being a cheapskate and not putting enough butter in. Even the gravy was no good.

The Mediterranean Salad was passable - but again only a couple of tiny bits of feta.It seems like a lot of price cutting going on - and I'm sure times are tough in Kingscliff in winter - but if the meal was a little better we would return to spend again.

And $3 per person corkage fee - for a Pizza cafe on a week night - is a bit much .

Medium Vegetarian Pizza - $15
Lamb Shank(s) - $15.50
Mediterranean Salad - $9.00

NOODLE BOX - Q SUPACENTRE. MERMAID WATERS

I wolfed down a quick regular Seafood Goreng ( $12.95) .....was yummy - but probably due to honey rather than any kind of interesting spice blend. Hardly any seafood - few slices of fish ball...and canned shrimp - and lots of rice. The small size ($7.95) would have been sufficient - and a decent snack....but for $12 I want more seafood than that
